Shopping

Coming from Kerala, the first thing to note about shopping in NZ are the store hours. New Zealanders like to party or have family time in the evenings, so if your not in a big city, some shops can close as early at 4 or 5 p.m! In saying this, keep an eye out for the 'late nights' which usually happen once or twice a week. The supermarkets are usually pretty good to stay open a bit later though!

Groceries

The most popular supermarkets are Pak n Save, Countdown and New World where you can buy pretty much anything from milk to sim cards. You will find at least one of these supermarkets in all the big towns and cities. The next best place to buy your immediate supplies will be at a petrol station, dairy or Four Square.

Independent department stores

There are several department stores around NZ and these ones can be found in all cities- The Warehouse, Kmart and Farmers.

All cities and most big towns will have a mall where there will usually be at least one supermarket and a department store. In big cities like Auckland and Wellington there are a few malls, some are under one roof and others with their own roofs- so pretty much an 'outdoor mall'.
